With names such as Miklós Jancsó, Ildikó Enyedi, Károly Makk, István Szabó or Márta Mészáros, Hungarian film has its firm place in the culture and history of European cinema. This can be traced back to the New Wave in the 1960s and the Béla Balázs Stúdió, whose representatives have a reputation beyond Hungary's borders. The volume presents 25 Hungarian films by 25 directors in individual contributions, contextualizes them and shows social, film historical, political and artistic contexts and characteristics. It thus offers a concise insight into Hungarian film production from 1920 to the present day and impressively demonstrates the aesthetic, thematic and thematic diversity of Hungarian film production.
