ZeM promotes collaboration with international scientists. Visiting scholars have the opportunity to pursue their research in the ZeM community through an association or in the form of scholarships.

In autumn 2017, scholarships were offered particularly to Turkish media scholars. As a symbol for the freedom of science and against the spread of populism and authoritarian leadership, the ZeM Board of Directors has launched a funding programme that is intended to support scholars who are directly affected by the repressive policies of the Turkish government to continue their research for a transitional period.
