Traveling with/through/on Facebook – Socio-technical Dynamics of Facebook-inherent Vacation Photographs
The dissertation focuses on amateur tourism photography, which is distributed and used in the social network Facebook. The expansion and easy accessibility of social media has resulted in new ways of using private material and media practices over the past 12 years, which have changed the handling and reception of private photographs. Social practices of photography – such as showing and exchanging photographic material among friends and acquaintances and photo albums or documenting experiences – migrate to the social network Facebook and are integrated into the network architecture. There, through the operating functions of the interfaces, various modification and participation options are created (e.g. fixing and influencing socio-technical actions as well as providing important information about the photographer’s travel preferences, distances covered and individual image content).
